| | 48" x 72" Oil - R.V. Harms 1990
The painting depicts the ghost-like interaction of the spirits and powers of the Inuit hunter and the great polar bear. Hunting is as much an exchange of spirits as it is a struggle of life and death. The more primitive the hunter the more likelihood he could become the hunted. One way of looking at our lives is to add up the number of things that must die in order that we may live. It would be better to ask, "How many things do we incorporate in order to become what we are?"
